De Montfort University put on an event called employability week every year, to prepare people for employment during and after university, dating from 04/11/2013 to 08/11/2013.
Throughout this week an artist named Alex Brady who previously studied at Loughborough and graduated her Masters Degree.
Brady collaborated together with other
graduated students and opened Vanilla Gallery located in Loughborough which work
alongside Two Queens in Leicester.
Soon after she entered a scarf design
competition, and won an opportunity to go Italy and work away, indecisive about
her options, Brady went and gained experience working with a company on commission,
as it gave her insight to the industry; where she made coloured patches which were
then sold and made into garments.
Later she started to work on her
self-directed work; I found a piece of her work interesting as she was inspired
by a poem named “Destination Row” by Bob Dylan, where created a series of
prints based on her own perception of this poem using her imagination. Brady
presented these prints in a comic book which is different but I personally don’t
find it visually interesting, as Brady commented “Comic Books have a bad
reputation”.
Brady visited Zeene Fair in Bristol
where she could meet people with the same interest, which I would like to experience
myself as I think it would be a great opportunity.
