Visiting Artist, Caroline Achaintre

Caroline Achaintre

Visiting German artist, Caroline Achaintre born in 1969, who has graduated from Goldsmiths University studying BA and MA Fine Arts. Achaintre projected a presentation dating 14/11/2013 at De Montfort University, which I found inspiring through the use of materials she aspires to.
Throughout her career she has experimented with various ideas and materials, as she went through a stage of creating fluid and detailed watercolour paintings which she found difficult scale up using this material. Therefore Achiantre started to experiment through crafts of clay, and developing into her recent work today which is exhibited world wide today.

Caroline Achaintre, Cat, 2006 (detail)
Watercolour on paper

The colours are contrasting between negative and positive, creating a sense of energy within the piece. This piece is expressive as the use of mark making is fluid and fast creating movement.
The strong elements of primary bold colours are disturbing, creating tension, this almost reflects a clown like figure personally which arises the subject matter of fears.

"Zibra" Hand-tufted wool, 2011
240 x 165 cm

Caroline Achaintre has used wool to create this piece which I find personally interesting, and her technique of suspending her work. I don't really understand Achiantres work but find it visually interesting, how each material intersects with one another creating a relationship.
