Seminar Tutor Evaluation

Having preformed my presentation, I was given feedback to progress in future Seminar Presentations. My Tutor stated I had a good amount of practice with good images and information. I had clearly undertaken appropriate and in-depth research for the presentation, giving a good account of the motivation for the work. It was good I indicated that a lot of the images are stills from performances and videos. Although reading from the script could be further developed, as it was little too fast.

I agree as I feel as though, with further experience and development with presentations, I will have more confidence to preform my presentation and further develop from reading a script, as I talk faster through reading.

Seminar Evaluation

Within my Seminar presentation, I feel I have benefited from this experience as I am developing my communicational skills. When presenting my presentation I read from a script, in which I am going to try in future, talk from points allowing me to engage with the audience more. I feel as I read from a script I talk fast, therefore my audience doesn't understand me.

I have found researching into my Artists interesting as I have developed a better understanding of her work, allowing me to explore her conceptual interest which has inspired my practice. I have portrayed Shiotas personal view relating it to my own practice. I explored Shiotas influence of Ana Mendieta and Eva Hesse, which inspire my practice as well, therefore I found this interesting to explore further. This gave me an opportunity to research into dated work.

Drawing Project- Artist Statement

My work aims to depict a spiritual presence of the unborn fetus. I am intrigued by the amniotic fluid surrounding an unborn baby in the womb, and the protection this fluid offers. I tend to incorporate fluidity within my work symbolizing movement highlighting growth and natural movement within the womb. I have layered my materials to create a depth of perspective and space between the viewer which highlighting its personal space protecting the subject.  The materials aim to create a subtle presence moving gently amongst the surroundings, experiencing suggestive to growth highlighting essences of nostalgia.

I was inspired by a personal result of my brother’s girlfriend becoming pregnant, as I often deal with the subject of death in my earlier work; I now wished to explore a contrasting topic.

My installation has been inspired by the work of artist Chihura Shiota and The Hunterian Museum in particular “Earth and Blood” as she incorporates blood and fluids as a response to her own miscarriage.  The Hunterian Museum preserves human body within jars, which I found overwhelming as they almost protect delicate subjects within a liquid form reflecting the amniotic fluid.

Self Directed Project - Artist Statement

My work aims to depict a spiritual presence of the unborn fetus. I am intrigued by the amniotic fluid surrounding an unborn baby in the womb, and the protection this fluid offers. I tend to incorporate fluidity and this idea of protection within my work, looking at different Medias, to provide the fluid elements and linking my own comfort blanket in to the work in terms of protections. I find it challenging capturing revolting Medias which in the process are symbolic of protection.

My installation has been inspired by the work of artist Chihura Shiota in particular “Earth and Blood” as she incorporates blood and fluids as a response to her own miscarriage.  Shiota has also experimented with knitting herself which intertwines with the human body, highlighting the blood circulation within the body dominating a strong element of life.
